I Want to Escape from Princess Lessons (novel/manga/anime)

I Want to Escape from Princess Lessons (妃教育から逃げたい私Kisaki Kyōiku kara Nigetai Watashi) is a Japanese light novel series written by Izumi Sawano and illustrated by Miru Yumesaki. It was serialized online from August 2018 to May 2019 on the user-generated novel publishing website Shōsetsuka ni Narō. It was later acquired by Shufu to Seikatsu Sha, who have published two volumes between April 2019 and March 2020 under their PASH! Books imprint. A manga adaptation with art by Uri Sugata has been serialized online via Shufu to Seikatsu Sha’s PASH UP! website since March 2020 and has been collected in five tankōbon volumes. Both the light novel and manga have been licensed in North America by J-Novel Club. An anime television series adaptation produced by EMT Squared is set to premiere in 2025.

Premise

Letty is unwillingly betrothed to Prince Clark; having hated the last decade of her life being forced to take Queen Consort training. When it looks like he’s having an affair at the ball, Letty very verbally tells him to enjoy his new life and heads out to the country for a simple life. Unfortunately, the Prince has a psychotic obsession with her; constantly ignoring Letty’s flat out rejection of him. She attempts to break off the engagement and even flee the country, but is kidnapped by the prince and imprisoned.
Prince Clark
Voiced by: Jun Fukuyama
The antagonist of the story. He one-sidedly fell in love at first sight with Letty from one meeting and forced their engagement. He had no clue she HATED it and ignored him in bitterness for it. Clark stubbornly refuses to accept Letty doesn’t want to marry him and is trying to Stockholm syndrome her into agreeing.

Manga

On September 15, 2023, J-Novel Club announced that they also licensed the manga adaptation. Seven Seas Entertainment licensed the manga as well.

Anime

An anime television series adaptation was announced on November 2, 2023. The series is produced by EMT Squared and directed by Shinobu Tagashira, with Tomoco Kanemaki writing series scripts, and Tagashira designing the characters. It is set to premiere in 2025. Muse Communication licensed the series in Southeast Asia.
